The mission of the HIS Kids Children’s Ministry is to support the overall mission of our church by partnering with parents in the spiritual formation of their children, resulting in the Discovery of God’s Truth, the Development of Christ-like character and the Determination to live a Spirit filled life.
At the heart of Deuteronomy 6: 4-9 lies the reality that our relationship with God was never meant to be a once-a-week experience. Rather it’s an ongoing, daily process that takes place in our homes and our families, as well as in our church (Romans 12). As we disciple children with God’s truth we understand that parents play an important role in developing their child’s world view. Our desire is to partner with families to help encourage and equip children with the tools necessary in building their relationship with Jesus Christ so that they can endure the trials of life. Our approach to ministry includes both evangelism and discipleship. Our desire is that as children mature, they will grow in God’s grace and wisdom through the following areas:
1. Discover God’s Truth – As children discover God’s truth and understand the value of unconditional love they become aware that God not only made them, but loves and cares for them as well. They begin to learn who Jesus is.
2. Develop a Christ-like Character – As children discover who Jesus is they develop an understanding of what God desires from them. Things like honesty, kindness, self control and patience become real to the child. Bible stories like David & Goliath, Creation, Noah’s Ark, the Parables of Jesus and the early Church, lay the foundation for children’s awareness of how amazing God is. Scriptural passages such as the “Full Armor of God” and “Fruits of the Spirit” in response, teach children how to live for God.
3. Determination to Live a Spirit Filled Life – As children develop a Christ-like character, the determination to know God’s calling in their life grows. This is not career planning but the defining moments that lay the foundation for a Biblical world view. Identifying the relevancy in every day life will bring clarity to not only the title of Christian, but the very nature of who they are in Christ. This awareness leads to their determination to live a life of victory and obedience that is in line with God’s original plan.
“For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13
Our Vision
Our vision is to see a vibrant, growing ministry where children are excited to learn more about God’s plan for their lives; an environment that creates excitement within the family unit, leading to parental leadership both in the church and at home. (Jeremiah 29:11)
Our Role
Our primary role is to allow the Holy Spirit to work through us to cultivate a Biblical world view in each child and prepare them for the ministry God is calling them to. (Colossians 3:17)
